Mendengarkan musik lewat earphone boleh-boleh saja. Hanya saja, perhatikan volume suara agar tidak merusak telinga dan menyebabkan gangguan pendengaran serta ketulian.

Dikatakan dr Damayanti Soetjipto, SpTHT-KL, Ketua Komnas Penanggulangan Gangguan Pendengaran dan Ketulian (PGPKT), mendengarkan musik lewat earphone memang menjadi salah satu kebiasaan remaja dan dewasa muda zaman sekarang. Agar telinga tetap sehat, gunakan rumus 60 per 60.

"Jadi volumenya maksimal 60 untuk kiri dan kanan. Pilih juga earphone yang memiliki peredam kebisingan dan ingat, batas maksimal mendengarkan musik lewat earphone itu satu jam per hari," tutur dr Dama kepada wartawan, baru-baru ini.

Hindari juga menggunakan earphone untuk mendengarkan musik sebelum tidur. Melakukan hal ini bisa merusak sel rambut halus di dalam telinga yang berfungsi mengantarkan bunyi ke saraf pendengaran dan otak.

"Kalau tidur kan otak istirahat, tapi gendang telinga dan sel rambutnya terpapar suara keras terus-menerus dari earphone. Lama-lama nanti sel rambutnya bisa rontok dan akhirnya mengalami gangguan pendengaran," tandasnya lagi.

Menurut data WHO saat menganalisis kebiasaan mendengarkan musik orang berusia 12-35 tahun, hampir 50 persennya mendengarkan musik dengan volume yang melebihi ambang batas normal. Sebanyak 40 persen orang pun terpapar suara dengan volume yang berpotensi merusak telinga, terutama di tempat hiburan.

Dikutip dari Fox News, dr Sreekant Cherukuri dari University of Michigan School of Medicine Alumni Association menyarankan agar remaja yang mendengarkan musik tidak melebihi ambang suara 80 desibel per hari. Jika memang desibel tinggi, istirahatkan telinga terlebih dahulu.

"Lalu gunakan prinsip 60/60 yaitu dengarkan musik dengan volume maksimal 60 persen dan setiap mendengarkan musik selama 60 menit ambillah waktu istirahat selama beberapa menit," katanya.
